What Men Value Most in Women

What exactly do men value in a potential female partner? Well, the first thing that probably comes to mind for most people is physical appearance.

And this is absolutely true, as men generally value physical appearance as a top priority when looking for a partner, according to numerous studies.

One study in particular from the University of Texas evaluated the mating preferences of over 4,000 men, and found that men have a tendency to look for partners who are “younger and more physically attractive.”

With this being said, what else do men find attractive in women? What type of woman, other than beautiful, does the modern man want?

Looks and Cooks

One hundred years ago, men opted for women who were not only physically attractive, but who also had certain life skills that were critical to maintaining a family unit and keeping a strong foundation at home.

Men were traditionally expected to be providers for the family, whether that be through hunting and gathering, or working jobs to earn money. While men were out gathering resources, the family unit at home was taken care of by the wife, which proved to be a naturally symbiotic relationship.

Modern women don’t often see it as this. And while research suggests that they still want men who can provide, they, however, no longer wish to be traditional housewives.

And while the idea of a “housewife” is scoffed at by most of these women, one cannot deny that these “housewife” traits are still coveted by men.

A study by researchers at the University of Iowa which evaluates the preferences of both men and women, and has taken place every decade since 1939, found that modern men still value things like “good cook and housekeeper” and placed them in the category of “desirable characteristics”.

So how far exactly does this go? How much do modern men truly value these life skills in women?

The Rise of the Traditional Wife

Enter the trad-wife.

Traditional wives, or trad-wives, have recently been making waves online for promoting themselves as women who embrace traditional values and practice traditional gender roles in marriage.

And many men online have also embraced this concept, while openly sharing their wish to find a woman just like this.

While the concept has certainly become a bit of a meme, the idea is that men are attracted to women who know how to take care of their home and their family.

And there’s nothing wrong with that, as many folks in the media may suggest. In fact, from an evolutionary biology perspective, it makes perfect sense.

A Stay-at-Home (Cave)Mom

Men are, by nature, providers, while women are, by nature, caretakers. Women are generally more attracted to caring for people, while men are more attracted to “things”.

This is why in modern times, engineering jobs are dominated by men while nursing jobs are dominated by women.

If we think about it, in “caveman” times, the man would go out and hunt to acquire food and resources, while the woman would stay home and make sure the family is taken care of.

These things are hardwired into our DNA, so now, in modern times, it makes sense that some men would be attracted to a woman who has the ability to care for a family and a home.

This is not to say that women shouldn’t work or make money, but that traits like having a caring nature and taking care of a house imply to men that a woman is a strong candidate to start a family with.
